HANDS-ON MASTERCLASSES FOR BUDDING BRADFORD & HARROGATE SCULPTORS

Budding sculptors will be able to try a range of techniques and create a cast of their hand at a series of Sculpture Masterclasses in both Bradford or Harrogate

Bradford-based artist Jennyanne Smith has teamed up with the South Square Centre in Thornton and the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate to run the series of day-long workshops on the first Thursday of every month at the South Square centre in Bradford and the last Thursday of the month at The Mercer gallery in Harrogate

At the first session on Thursday 6 February, participants will be making a plaster cast of their hands and creating a bas relief using clay and plaster. Later sessions will include modelling, and working with wire, clay, plaster and wax…

Sessions, which are for up to 15 people, cost £70 but a 3.5% discount is available for people who book three workshops, bringing the price of each workshop down to just £65.

Jennyanne, who is Director of Cocreate Arts & Health CIC, said:

“Feedback I regularly receive is that lots of people want to have a go at sculpture, but they don’t have the space or facilities and they don’t really know where to start.”

“These workshops in the South Square Centre and the Mercer Galleries dedicated studio spaces will give people the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and teaching with two artists in a range of sculpture techniques.”

“People will leave these sessions with tangible results, in the first instance a plaster cast of their hands, and a greater idea of how they can take their artistic ambitions forward.”

Jennyanne has 10 years’ experience in running art workshops in a range of prestigious arts venues including Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Hepworth Wakefield, The Tetley Gallery and the University of Leeds. She has also worked internationally, delivering workshops in conferences such as Creating a Better Future: a conference for social change in Vienna in 2012.She set up Cocreate Arts & Health CIC to focus on how the arts can contribute to promoting positive mental health in her local community.

Jennyanne added:

“Every ticket sold for one of the workshops will directly benefit someone from our local community by contributing towards a free bursary place for someone who cannot afford to access them. Also, any additional profits will feed into our work in the local community.”

“People can check out our website at www.Cocreatearts.co.uk  for details.”

Cocreate arts and health CIC has also applied for funding to run creative life coaching classes for people in Bradford and Jennyanne has also just started running Mindful Mondays 8 –9.30pm in the community room at The South Square centre.

Jennyanne said

“These are donation-based sessions for which people pay what they can afford – and join me for meditation, movement, mindful making activity and a bit of mantra!
